Zenkokuji Temple was bulit in 1595 in kouji-machi under the order of Ieyasu Tokugawa. In 1670, it was damaged by fire, but was restored in 1674. It was later moved to where it is today due to frequent fire.
The famous statue of Bishamon is designated as an important cultural asset. Bishamon is the deity of military and gained popularity among people as one of Shichifukujin (Seven deities of good luck).
It was recognized and respected as "Bishamon of Kagurazaka" in the end of Edo era. From Meiji era to Taisho Era, Kagurazaka, which we sometimes call "Yamanoteginza", became prosperous as a temple town of Bishamon. Today, we have many food stalls around a temple on a festival day. This culture is said to have originated in Kagurazaka.
