Sotobori Park

Sotobori ParkSotobori is the remains of the outer moat of Edo castle. It was established in 1636 as the final construction of Edo castle. Chonji Valley was dug for the moat, and its soil was loaded in Kudan, Koujimachi, Banchou to establish some mounds.

They built Ishigaki (stone wall) in the moat and the gates at strategic points, and employed gatekeepers. Sotobori is said to have been wider than it is today. After Meiji era, a part of Sotobori belonged to JR Chuo line and after the Pacific war, Sotobori was reclaimed and became "Sotobori Park"
