Shinjuku Promenade Park“Shiki-no-Michi”

Following the discontinuation of the tram system from Shinjuku in 1970, Shinjuku Promenade Park –“Shiki-no-Michi – was completed in 1974 in the area which used to accommodate the rails leading to the depot for the trams. This promenade has been listed in the “Midori-no-Shinjuku 30-sen (30 green spots of Shinjuku).”

Announced by Shinjuku City in January, 1994, “Midori-no-Shinjuku 30-sen” includes green landscapes and facilities in Shinjuku which were carefully selected according to certain criteria, such as “those that attract attachment and sympathy from many Shinjuku residents” and “those that represent characteristics unique to Shinjuku.” Located a block away from Kuyakusho-dori Street, this park turned the area with Toden’s industrial railways into a promenade with mosaic-patterned, beautiful flagstone paths along with trees and seasonal plants and flowers. This relaxing area is now a place soothing the spirits of people going by or through.
