"Visiting dyehouses" and sen play

"Visiting dyehouses" is the Kanda River, event that we can observe a great variety of studios concerning dyeing in basin of strange original Terakawa. [the east area] is from Wednesday, October 23, 2019 to Sunday, October 27, [the west area] from Wednesday, October 30, 2019 to Sunday, November 3.

Visiting dyehouses

Dyehouse is dye house. As indigo dyeing accounted for most of the dyed goods in the Edo era, we came to call dyed goods craftsman "dyer" collectively.

There are various processes before cloth becomes kimono. Until techniques such as Edo-dyed clothe and Edo printed cotton, technique of dyeing such as Tokyo freehand drawing yuzen and Edo embroidery or crest dyed figure on cloth, dyeing revision and steaming, process of finish such as sencho, high division of labor system developed.

They regard such a type of industry as "dyehouse" at this event widely, and Shinjuku-ku can observe a great variety of studios concerning dyeing in Ochiai, Takadanobaba, Waseda around basin of Kanda River, wonder plus Terakawa during period (schedule varies according to each area).

As you plan each studio original experience and display, come with kimono by way of autumn walk by all means.

Thanksgiving Day of senshokujin

"Visiting dyehouses" participation studios gather in a hall.

In Shinjuku, senshokujin inherited ceaselessly will always perform Thanksgiving Day in Kagurazaka, the god of treasure in Shinjuku in the Edo era.

We display Edo-dyed clothe, Edo yuzen, other freehand drawings thing under the main hall of a Buddhist temple. We pitch tent outside and sell accessory in conjunction with kimono.
*We present decorative collar of member handicraft (30 people the first in one every day coming with kimono)
